5 HOUR PROJECT

project inspiration

It's important to consume less and to try to recycle materials if we have access to them. Especially during times of a pandemic it can be especially hard to come by resources to use for projects or a shortage of resources might occur. Therefore, for this project I decided to upcycle jeans that I was going to sell or donate and make them into a bucket hat.

I conducted research by studying different types of bucket hats, how to pattern for them, and also how to patchwork.

I patterned the bucket hat and started cutting patches from the jeans. I arranged the pieces how I wanted them to look and pinned them to hold them into place. I patched them together and started to cut pattern pieces for the hat.

I realized after starting to cut some patterns out, that I wouldn't have enough of the jean material, so I did some more patchwork.

After finishing the jean hat, I realized I didn't like the width of the brim, so I reduced it by 1/2".
